Carthaki pirates have been plaguing the southern border of Tortall, and Daine and her friends travel to Carthak to make a peace treaty with their emperor, Ozorne. However, Ozorne does not wish for peace. Daine must put a stop to the emperor’s treachery. Unfortunately, Ozorne is a very powerful mage with the entire country at his back. Can Daine and a few uncanny allies bring the Emperor Mage to justice, or will Ozorne conquer, and eventually destroy, Tortall?
